【开云·体育(kaiyun)(中国)官方网站博导论坛】创新:大学所扮演的角色

  4月15日上午,开云·体育(kaiyun)(中国)官方网站博导论坛《创新:大学所扮演的角色》于鉴四11楼学术报告厅举行。布鲁内尔伦敦大学首席副校长安德鲁乔治博士担任讲座主讲。开云·体育(kaiyun)(中国)官方网站副院长朱汉雄、交通学院院长朱凌出席了本次讲座。外院专硕口译班同学对此次讲座进行了同传演练。 

 

  讲座正式开始前,安德鲁博士谈及了自己与中国结下的不解之缘——100年前其曾祖父就曾来到中国工作学习,而如今自己也追随曾祖父的脚步来到中国进行学术交流。随后,安德鲁博士对布鲁内尔大学进行了简单介绍。他表示,布鲁内尔大学的校园虽小,但其20%的学生都来自欧洲以外的国家,18%以上的教授来自伦敦以外的地方,他们的到来为大学注入了新的活力,使其更具有创新精神,而创新则是大学中所不可或缺的。接下来,安德鲁博士从四个方面谈了谈自己对“创新”的看法。

  “大学应该扮演一个什么样的角色?”,安德鲁博士表示:如今大多数人在做着技术含量很低的工作,还有很大一部分人在做着中等技术含量的事情,而很多这类工作将来都可能由机器人来完成。如今世界未来最需要的,是那些掌握高技术的人才,而大学则是培养这类人才的最佳场所。

  谈及如何培养学生的创新精神,安德鲁博士强调,学校应重视学生的进取心,给予学生足够的时间与空间,让其将自己的创意落实。针对“学校该如何支持创新过程中诞生的商业?”这一问题,安德鲁博士表示:首先可通过做科研来为商业运营提供理论与技术支撑;其次可以提供经济支持,比如可以申请政府对创新项目进行投资;最后还可以对员工进行培训,使其掌握必要的工作技能。

  “大学该如何实现自我创新?”,对此安德鲁博士提出了三点建议:支持学生发挥自己的创造力、培养学生的团队合作精神、把学生培养成更国际化的人才。

  最后,交通学院院长朱凌教授对此次讲座进行总结发言,并表达了对安德鲁乔治博士精彩演讲的感谢。随后,安德鲁乔治博士与开云·体育(kaiyun)(中国)官方网站及交通学院领导、外院专硕班全体同学进行了合影留恋。

  本次讲座内容丰富,且与实际运用联系紧密,加深了同学们对“创新精神”的了解和认知,也为学院今后的人才培养工作提供了宝贵经验。

   【小资料】Andrew George was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and International) on 1 October 2013. He joined Brunel from Imperial College London where he was Professor of Molecular Immunology and Director of the Graduate School and the School of Professional Development. 

    Andrew George did his first degree at the University of Cambridge, before going on to the Tenovus Laboratories in the University of Southampton to do his PhD with Professor Freda Stevenson, developing a vaccine for B cell lymphoma. He was awarded a Beit Memorial Fellowship and stayed in Southampton for his first postdoctoral period, before going to Dr David Segal’s laboratory in the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, USA, where he used recombinant techniques to generate novel antibody molecules. In 1992 he returned to the UK as a lecturer at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, which merged with Imperial College in 1997. 

    Andrew’s research has sought to understand and manipulate the immune system in order to treat disease, in particular to prevent the rejection of transplanted organs. He has also used mathematical models to understand how the immune system functions. In addition to his research, he has been involved in the ethical conduct and regulation of research. He is currently Chair of the UK’s National Research Ethics Advisors’ Panel and is on the Clinical Trials, Biologicals and Vaccines Expert Advisory Group for the Commission of Human Medicines/MHRA. He is a Governor of Richmond Adult Community College, a Trustee of Action Medical Research and on the Training Advisory Group of NERC.
